KABOOM! Sight Word Game
Episode 22
Introduction
Supplies
Let's combine playtime with literacy time! To keep
learning fun and include younger family members
or friends, try our sight word game, "KABOOM!"
It's simple to create, easy to modify, and will have
your child (and their friends) practicing letter and
word recognition while learning to take turns and
play fair.
Popsicle sticks or
tongue depressors
Marker OR scissors,
glue stick, and our
printout (pages 3-5)
Cup or empty can
Timer (optional)
Instructions
Put words or letters on each popsicle stick: Use our printout (pages 3-5) to cut and paste words to each
popsicle stick, or use a permanent marker to write your own. For younger children, write letters or
numbers instead.
Write "KABOOM!" on a few sticks: Be sure to write the word "KABOOM!" on a few sticks—they'll be
important later!
Put all sticks in a cup or can: Put all the sticks, word-end down, into an empty cup or can. That's it!
